Alan James Watson, 41, passed away on January 6th, 2024, surrounded by family and friends at the Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre in Barrie, Ontario. Alan was born in Toronto to parents Jenny Suk Ching and George Watson. Alan was a husband to Courtney Lander Watson; grandson to Fong-Kiu Chan; brother to Claire Watson and her partner, Aaron MacArthur; brother to Ian Watson and his wife, Christine DeSantis; uncle to Sebastien Watson; nephew to Shalin Ramesra, Gavin, Kaki, and Chun-Li Chan; cousin to Anna, Phillip, and Steven Chan. Alan retired as a Sergeant from the Toronto Scottish Regiment (Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother’s Own) after 22 years. He was awarded the Queen Elizabeth II’s Diamond Jubilee Medal for his service. He took immense pride and joy in everything he did in the Army, including serving in Afghanistan in 2010. Alan was a respected instructor and mentor, known for his genuine personality, big smile, and infectious laugh. He was also a carpenter with IATSE 873 where he built sets for TV series’ that included American Gods and Hannibal, as well as motion pictures, It: Chapter Two and Slumberland. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. A service for family and friends will be held at the Highland Hills Funeral Home & Cemetery at 12492 Woodbine Ave, Gormley, ON L0H 1G0 (tel: 1-647-931-9936) on Sunday January 14th with visitation at 9:00am and funeral proceedings at 10:30am.
